Depression

Updated: Mar 23, 2023

Psalms 143:7

Hear me speedily, O LORD: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.

What an ugly subject to talk about. But depression is real. In this verse, David felt defeated and he was calling to God to help him get past this gloom. My mother suffered from depression her whole life. Before I knew Jesus as my savior, I would talk to God and ask him to help my mother. She had good days and bad days while I was growing up, but as she got older, the bad days got to be more frequent until it consumed her. I remember one bad day when I was about 17 or 18, I yelled at her and asked her why she can't just "BE HAPPY." I have remembered that moment my whole life, striving to be what she wasn't, Happy!

I have moments I would call depression. I feel defeated at every corner I turn. The devil likes to make you feel this way. When I start feeling this way, I call out to God because he is my comforter, my strength, my savior, who taught me to get past these feelings because I have him to give my defeated thoughts and feelings to and he reminds me that I am his child and by his power there is nothing that can defeat me!

Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen :thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Call out to the Lord and ask him for strength. God made you, he knows every hair on your head. You are his child and he will not let you stay in that pit.
